Men's Tennis Concludes Regular Season with 5-2 Win Over Wright State
April 13, 2008
VALPARAISO, Ind. - The Green Bay men's tennis team concluded its tough road-heavy week Sunday with its 5-2 win over Wright State in a neutral court contest in Valparaiso, Ind. Freshman Brian Zaron stepped up for the Phoenix in the win, aiding Green Bay with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 5 singles while tallying a 8-3 win with Eric Plaushines at No. 3 doubles to secure the doubles point. Green Bay grabbed the first point of the dual, as Tim Prudlow and Mark Goldin rallied for a 9-7 win at No. 1 doubles to go with Green Bay's victory at the No. 3 position. The Phoenix then secured the win with solid singles play. Matt Clegg tallied his third straight win at No. 3 singles to pace a quartet of straight-set wins. John Brough and Matt Keesey were also victorious at No. 4 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Green Bay could not get the sweep, as Wright State's No. 1 and No. 2 singles players posted slim victories. Prudlow dropped his No. 1 singles match after a pair of tie-breakers, while Goldin's match also featured a tie-breaker in the loss. The Phoenix will now prepare for the 2008 Horizon League Men's Tennis Championship, hosted in Indianapolis April 25-26. |
