BOZEMAN, Mont. - A pair of Green Bay Nordic skiers competed in the 2008 NCAA Skiing Championships Wednesday in the first day of the four-day championship, hosted by Montana State University. The men and women raced in the freestyle technique at Bohart Ranch, with classic races slated for Friday.

Sophomore Santi Ocariz, skiing in his second NCAA championship for the Green Bay men, improved on last year's showing with a 28th place finish in the 38-skier field. Ocariz posted a time of 33:12.6 in the 10K freestyle, surging in the second loop of the race for his 28th place finish.

Dartmouth's Glenn Randall took the 10K title with his time of 30:37.3.

For the women, senior Ashley Pletcher finished 38th out of 39 skiers in the 5K women's race with a time of 20:34.0. Colorado's Maria Grevsgaard was the women's overall champion with her time of 17:09.8.

Thursday brings the first part of alpine skiing for the NCAA Championship, as men's and women's giant slalom will take place at Bridger Bowl. Following Friday's return to Bohart Ranch for the classic Nordic ski races, the championship concludes Saturday with the slalom races.
