![]() Boosters, Alumni and Representatives of Athletics InterestsBoosters, Alumni, and Representatives of Athletics Interests of Green Bay Athletics also have a responsibility to be educated about the various NCAA rules that apply to them. Please read through the following guidelines, but always be sure to contact the Green Bay Athletics Compliance Office before taking any unsure action - remember, ASK BEFORE YOU ACT to help keep Green Bay Athletics in compliance. Definition of a Booster Definition of a Prospect Important Rules to Remember for Boosters Employing Student-Athletes Who is a Representative of Green Bay Athletics Interests (Booster)? The NCAA defines a representative of Green Bay athletics interests as any person who: Has ever been a member of any Green Bay Athletic Department Fan Support Group; Has ever made financial contributions to the Department of Athletics Is or has ever been a season ticket holder in any sport; Has ever helped arrange employment for or employed a current or prospective student-athlete; or Is otherwise involved in the promotion of Green Bay athletics. Once an individual becomes a representative of athletics interests that individual remains that identity indefinitely. Who is a Prospective Student-Athlete (Prospect)? The NCAA defines a prospective student-athlete (prospect) as any student who has started classes for the ninth grade. Any student who has not started classes for the ninth grade becomes a prospect if the institution, or a representative if the institution's athletics interests, provides the individual (or the individual's family or friends) with any financial assistance or other benefit(s) that the institution does not generally provide to prospective students. Important Rules for Boosters As a representative of the Green Bay Athletics interests, you MAY: Notify our coaches about prospects in your area that may be strong additions to our teams. Attend high school, two year college athletic contests, or other events where prospects may compete, however, you may NOT contact the prospect or the prospect's relatives. Continue existing friendships with families of prospects, but you may NOT attempt to recruit the prospect. Employ prospective student-athletes the summer after they have signed a National Letter of Intent. However, as a representative of Green Bay Athletics interests you MAY NOT: Make in-person, on-campus or off-campus recruiting contacts with prospective student-athletes, their relatives or legal guardians. This prohibition includes written and telephone communications. Contact prospective student-athlete's coaches, principals or counselors in an attempt to evaluate the prospective student-athletes. Visit the prospective student-athlete's school to acquire film or transcripts for purposes of evaluating their athletic or academic eligibility. Entertain, provide tickets or gifts and other benefits to a junior or senior in high school, prep school, or two-year college coaches, athletic director or for any other individual responsible for teaching or directing an activity in which a prospective student-athlete is involved. Contribute to the payment of registration fees for prospective student-athletes to attend summer sports camps. Mail anything, including newspapers, posters, programs, media guides, clippings, etc. to prospective student-athletes. Contribute to the payment of transportation costs for prospective student-athletes or their relatives or friends to visit the campus. This includes commercial or private transportation by car, train, or plane. Contact enrolled student-athletes at other four-year colleges to explore the possibilities of them transferring to the university and its athletic programs. Provide a student-athlete with extra benefits or services including, but not limited to: 1. A loan of money 2. A guarantee of bond 3. The use of an automobile 4. Signing or co-signing a note with an outside agency to arrange a loan; 5. Make services available to a student-athlete (e.g., movie tickets, dinners, use of a car) from commercial agencies (e.g., movie theaters, restaurants, car dealers) without charge or at reduced rates; 6. Provide a student-athlete with a special discount, payment arrangement or credit on a purchase or service; 7. Provide a student-athlete with professional services without charge or at a reduced cost; 8. Allow a student-athlete to use a telephone or credit card without charge or at a reduced cost; or 9. Serve as a "sponsor" or "family" for enrolled student-athletes. Student-Athlete Employment A representative of Green Bay Athletics interests may employ prospective student-athletes providing that compensation is: Paid only for work actually performed At a rate commensurate with the going rate in that locality for similar services Not based on the value or utility of the student-athlete's reputation, fame, or publicity resulting from their athletic ability |
